Finite Element Analysis of Two Nearby Interfering Strip Footings Embedded in Saturated Cohesive Soils

چکیده

The issue of interaction between nearby footings is paramount practical significance. interference effect should be taken into account since the footing may really separated from or bounded by other on one both sides. In this regard, paper studies two interfering strip embedded in saturated cohesive soils, which will help to provide a better understanding impact depth effect. A numerical study carried out using finite element program (Midas GTS-NX), and behavior closely placed soils investigated under influence different factors such as spacing footings, soil undrained shear strength, groundwater table. It was concluded that cohesion ratio have notable spaced footings. For all values, it has been observed needed for vanish decreases with an increase water addition, S/B increases, ultimate bearing capacity (UBC) until reaches same value isolated at greater spacing. UBC approximately 10% higher = 1 compared footing. However, 1, achieves equal does not change when increases. With increasing depth, there UBC. Finally, highest values x were obtained cases Cu 40 kPa. This indicates softer. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2023-09-03-017 Full Text: PDF

Time continuity in cohesive finite element modeling

We introduce the notion of time continuity for the analysis of cohesive zone interface finite element models. We focus on “initially rigid” models in which an interface is inactive until the traction across it reaches a critical level. We argue that methods in this class are time discontinuous, unless special provision is made for the opposite. Time discontinuity leads to pitfalls in numerical ...

Bearing capacity of strip footings on unsaturated soils by the slip line theory

The bearing capacity of strip footings on unsaturated soils is studied using slip line theory. The suction profiles considered are non-uniform with depth and correspond to vertical flow of water by infiltration or evaporation. The slip line theory assumes a plastic equilibrium state of a Mohr-Coulomb soil in which suction influences are included using the effective stress concept. This paper sh...

A cohesive finite element for quasi-continua

In this paper, a cohesive finite element method (FEM) is proposed for a quasi-continuum (QC), i.e. a continuum model that utilizes the information of underlying atomistic microstructures. Most cohesive laws used in conventional cohesive FEMs are based on either empirical or idealized constitutive models that do not accurately reflect the actual lattice structures. The cohesive quasi-continuum f...

Finite Element Analysis of Large Strains in Soils

FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF LARGE STRAINS IN SOILS by RODRIGO MOLINA FERNANDEZ Submitted to the Department of Civil Engineering on August 30, 1971, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Civil Engineering. Some problems of behavior of soils under given boundary conditions involve large deformations and strains, but finite element analyses of soil proble...
